A Guide to Garage Door Controls

If you are fed up with manhandling your garage door open and have decided to automate it, your next decision is what sort of garage door control you want. At Automated Garage Doors & Gates we offer a few different types of garage door control. Here’s our guide to each of them.

Garage Door Control #1: Handheld Transmitter

How it Works: The handheld transmitter is essentially a remote control for your garage door. When you are within range, you can press a button to open and close your door. The same transmitter can also be programmed to operate a gate to your property and any outside lights.

Best Used for: This is a simple and convenient option for anyone who wants easy access to their garage.

Garage Door Control #2: Transponder Key Switches

How it Works: With a transponder key switch, you can gain access to your garage by holding the transponder in front of a wall mounted reader. After two seconds your garage doors will open.

Best Used for: You can have a key made for whoever needs one, so this is a great system for a family or small business where a few people need to regularly access the garage.

Garage Door Control #3: Digital Keypad

How it Works: Gain access to your garage by entering a simple memorable numerical code on a wall-mounted digital keypad. Only those who know the access code can get in.

Best Used for: This is a good system to use when a few people need to access the garage, and it’s very secure as you can change the code as regularly as you like.

Garage Door Control #4: Fingerprint Scanners

How it Works: Now we’re in the realm of technical wizardry – not far off the sort of thing Q develops for James Bond. If you want to be absolutely certain that nobody gains access to your garage unless you are there with them, then you can install a fingerprint scanner. No two fingerprints are the same, so only you will be able to open your door.

Best Used for: If you have concerns about a transmitter, a transponder or even a keypad code falling into the wrong hands, then a fingerprint scanner offers you the ultimate security.
