Garage Doors in the News: 3 Funny and Surprising Stories

We like to keep an eye on current affairs, but it is rare that our speciality makes the news. Garage doors, it seems, just aren’t that newsworthy. Or are they? Every now and then, we notice a garage door hitting the news. Here are our favourite news stories.

A Different Kind of Drive Through

If you have reached the age of 91, you may well think you have achieved almost everything that you could hope to achieve. You probably deserve a rest. Not so, Walter Thomas of Woodstock, Illinois. The nonagenarian had one more thing to cross off his bucket list: he wanted to drive a car through a garage door.

A Two-Dimensional Character

In February, a Ferrari 250 GTO sold for £20,000,000. You would have to be pretty wealthy (and pretty obsessed with motors) to spend that much money on a car. Hampshire artist Chris Smith does not have the money for his dream car, so he’s drawn one on his garage door. You are unlikely to see this model of Ferrari – only 39 were ever made – so the art installation has attracted a lot of attention, with passers by stopping to take photographs.

Clipped Wings

Upward-opening ‘Falcon Wing’ doors are flashy, if not particularly practical. One driver learned this the hard way when they drove their Tesla Model X 90D out of the garage – with the doors still open. If only the car doors had an automatic closing mechanism like our garage doors!
