Garage Door Maintenance: Leave it to the Experts

Black Garage Door

For some DIY jobs, you can get by with a shopping trip to Wickes hardware store and following a YouTube clip of someone who knows what they’re doing. But some DIY jobs should never be attempted by an amateur. If your automated garage door is not working, trying to fix it yourself can be very dangerous. If you’re not an expert, leave garage door maintenance to someone who is.

Attempting DIY on your garage door could not only damage a valuable part of your property, but also cause accidental injury to yourself. The main risks are:

  • Garage doors are heavy, and supported by a complex arrangement of springs and cables. If you start unscrewing bits and pieces to see what’s wrong and you don’t understand how the whole structure is supported, the door may fall suddenly. This could damage the garage door – or worse, you.
  • Garage door springs, cables, rollers and pulleys are under high tension. This means they can cause a lot of damage (and even injury) if they break or snap.
  • Automation of your garage door relies on electricity. Any task involving the fixing of electrical components should only be undertaken by someone with the relevant training. If the component is not properly isolated from the electric current before maintenance is carried out, you could be electrocuted.

At Automated Garage Doors and Gates, we have over twenty years’ experience in the installation and maintenance of automated garage doors. Our engineers are fully trained, and can quickly and safely identify your problem and repair your garage door.
