How to Soundproof Your Garage

If you have a noisy hobby like drumming, motorcycle engine maintenance or electric wood lathing, the garage is the perfect place to practise it. Soundproofing your garage first will keep you on good terms with the neighbours (and, most importantly, anyone who lives in your house), but how do you go about it?

The Walls

The most popular way to soundproof walls is to attach soundproofing panels to the interior walls. In the old days, this meant attaching thick pads of foam or rubber and significantly reducing the usable space of a room. However, modern technology means you can now buy panels as thin as 50mm that will achieve the same effect. The panels can be adhered directly to a plastered wall and will cut the amount of sound leaking through the walls of your garage.

The Windows

Garages typically don’t have large windows. This is good news for your soundproofing project. You could install wooden shutters over the outside of any windows, but a thick blind or curtains will still have a noticeable effect on sound reduction.

The Door

All this time and expense spent soundproofing your garage will be wasted if you don’t have a modern, well-insulated garage door. At Automated Garage Doors and Gates Ltd, we are approved suppliers of modern garage doors from some of Europe’s most respected manufacturers. A modern insulated garage door will keep the heat in, but it will also effectively prevent sound escaping.
