6 Ways to Make your Garage More Energy Efficient

Older garages were not built with modern energy efficiency standards in mind. They can be poorly insulated places with ill-fitting windows. In winter, you may find yourself spending a lot of money on heating your garage. Especially if you use it for work or pursue a hobby in there. Here are 6 ways to reduce your energy bills by making your garage more energy efficient.

  1. Improve Wall Insulation. Because garages are not built to be inhabited, their walls are often uninsulated. You can add insulation into cavity walls and you can stick insulation boards to the interior of solid walls.
  2. Check Concrete Floors. If your garage has a concrete floor, check it for cracks. Cracks are caused by temperature fluctuation and moisture, and once there they contribute to further temperature fluctuation thus compounding the problem. Seal any cracks you find with a silicone concrete and masonry sealant.
  3. Swap bulbs for LEDs. Swap your older bulbs for long lasting LED lights that provide the same quality of light, but use far less power.
  4. Add Solar Roof Panels. Solar roof panels on your garage roof can reduce the amount of non-renewable energy you are using to heat and light your garage.
  5. Replace Windows. Modern energy efficient windows let less heat out.
  6. Upgrade Door. This is one we can help you with. We supply and install modern insulated garage doors from industry leaders such as WarmProtection and Garador. The sectional garage doors that we fit have 42mm thick panels comprised of two sheets of pressed metal filled with insulating foam. The price of the door includes its installation.
